Meet Cynthia
Every resident at Hallmark House brings with them a lifetime of memories, relationships, traditions, and experiences that have shaped who they are. Through our Resident Spotlight series, we have the opportunity to celebrate those stories and share a glimpse into the lives of the remarkable people who call Hallmark House home.
Today, we’re pleased to introduce Cynthia, whose life has been shaped by a deep love for family, a strong Christian faith, years of dedicated work, and an appreciation for the simple joys of being active and spending time outdoors.

Family Has Always Come First
Family has always been one of the most important parts of Cynthia’s life. She is the proud mother of two daughters, grandmother of four, and great-grandmother to a great-grandson.
Her daughters remember the constant love and support Cynthia has given them throughout their lives. Her grandchildren have their own special memories of time spent with Grandma, especially the many times she babysat them when they were younger and read books with them.
For Cynthia, some of the best moments have always been the ones spent surrounded by the people she loves.

Bringing Family Together Through Food
In her younger years, Cynthia was known as an excellent cook. When she brought a dish to a family gathering or special event, everyone knew it was likely to be a favorite.
Some of Cynthia’s best recipes have now become part of the next generation. Her daughters continue to prepare many of the dishes she made for their family, keeping those familiar flavors and memories alive.

Born on February 25, 1948, Cynthia grew up in the small town of Wakarusa, Indiana, as the middle of three sisters. She remained in the Wakarusa area for most of her life before moving to Hallmark House in December 2023 to be closer to her daughter.
A Life Guided by Faith
Cynthia’s Christian faith has also been a meaningful and steady presence throughout her life. She spent her years actively attending church and participating in church ministries, building connections and serving alongside others in her community.
Faith, family, and fellowship have remained important parts of the values that have guided her throughout the years.

A Career That Kept Family Close
When Cynthia’s daughters started school, she began working as an elementary school reading aide so she could follow the same schedule as her girls.
She eventually transitioned into a role as a high school bookkeeper and continued in that position until she retired. For several years before retirement, Cynthia also worked weekends in the nutrition department of her local hospital.
Sharing Love Through Food
Cynthia was also an excellent cook. Whenever she brought food to a family gathering or event, her dishes were often crowd favorites.
Her daughters continue to make some of Cynthia’s best recipes today, and many of them remain family favorites.
Staying Active and Enjoying the Outdoors
Cynthia has always enjoyed staying active. She was a runner when she was younger and later began walking regularly. That habit continues today, and she is well known around Hallmark House for her daily strolls.
Yard work was another activity she enjoyed for many years. Even today, spending time outside and looking at trees, landscaping, and flowers is one of her favorite parts of the day. Bird watching has also become a new interest for her.
Cynthia is an animal lover as well. She enjoys seeing the dogs that live around Hallmark House and has always loved horses. As a little girl, she even had a horse of her own.
Most of all, Cynthia enjoys staying busy. Whether she is participating in an activity, spending time outdoors, or simply being with family and friends, she is happiest when she has good company around her.
